当形容一个人病的很重时，英语中有这样的说法：sick as a dog. 为什么人们会用“狗”来表示“生病”的意思呢？ 
原来，英语中dog一词有时含有贬义，比如俚语going to the dogs，表示“糟糕透顶”；dog in the manger，表示“犬占马槽、自私自利”的意思。
